Comparing the Effects of Rhythm-Based Music Training and Pitch-Based Music Training on Executive Functions in Preschoolers - PMC

Prior to this study conducted at the National Institute of Health, researchers had not clearly determined which component of music training produces the most benefits for children. In this study, the effects of rhythm-based and pitch-based music training on preschoolers' executive functions - planning, focusing and remembering - were examined. According to the study, rhythm-based music instruction especially improves inhibition in preschoolers and may have an impact on other executive functions, including task switching and visual working memory.
